Built picks up a slew of awards at 2011 Master Builders Assocation Excellence in Construction Awards

Built has continued its success at the Master Builders Association Awards with six wins at the annual Excellence in Construction celebrations, taking our total to 23 MBA awards over the last five years.

The NSW team picked up the following awards at the recent NSW MBA 2011 Awards:

 

Winner:  Refurbishment/Renovation/Extension $5-$10million

AGNSW/John Kaldor Family Gallery.

The project comprised the refurbishment of an existing below ground storage facility at the Art Gallery of New South Wales to create a stunning new exhibition space dedicated to the contemporary art collection gifted by the John Kaldor Family.  Whilst the gallery continued to operate, over 10,000 patrons were accommodated each day, as the complex excavation and penetration works were underway.

Winner: Best use of Glass

70 King Street

The Blacket Hotel, on the corner of King and George Streets in the Sydney CBD has undergone a highly complex refurbishment and structural upgrade. The building has significant heritage elements and involved the creation of additional levels that blended in th with adjacent buildings. To do, the façade of 3 new levels was constructed out of glass creating a clean contemporary aesthetic that compliments the commercial architecture around it and maintains the heritage value of the existing building.

Winner:  Public Buildings $10-$25million

TCA Commuter Car Park, Wollongong

The project involved the construction of a multi-storey car park located west of Wollongong Station to provide spaces for 356 cars, 23 motorcycles and 24 bicycles, as well as a dedicated kiss and ride zone.  The judges' commented that "the completed project was well built and completed in 9 months on time". The project was Built's first mandatory Glove and Safety Eyewear site.

The QLD team picked up the following awards at the recent Gold Coast MBA 2011 Awards:

Winner:  Tourism & Hospitality Facilities over $4,000,000 

QT Gold Coast (Formerly Gold Coast International Hotel)

The Gold Coast International Hotel has been reborn into QT Gold Coast after one of the most striking refurbishments on the Gold Coasts hotel scene. The $10m refurbishment brief incorporated the refubishment of ground floor restaurants, bars, cafe and reception areas.

Winner:  Sporting & Community Service Facilities up to $4,000,000

The Riverhouse, Coomera

The Riverstone Crossing Lifestyle Centre has provided the local community with a multi-million dollar facility that will no doubt become the hub of Stockland's Riverstone Crossing community. The centre boasts bold architecture with striking features including sprawling external decks and state-of-the-art facilities for indoor entertaining.

Winner:  Best use of Steel Cladding (Roof & Walls)

Park Lake State School, Gold Coast

The newly constructed Multi-Purpose Resource Hall at Park Lake State School has provided the school with a $2m facility as part of the Primary Schools for the 21st Century Program, under the Federal Government's Building the Education Revolution Stimulus Initiative. The Multi-Purpose Hall incorporates a performance stage, with a supporting audio visual system, and has been designed to seat 450 people, creating a gathering space for the students at Park Lake State School. The works also included an amenities block with kitchen / servery and adjoining meeting room. This structure is located to the north of the school hall and is adjoined by a covered common gathering space.
