Built’s commitment to closing the gender pay gap
At Built, we know that the strength of our organisation comes from the diversity of our people – their perspectives, experiences, and ideas.
We recognise that fostering a more gender-diverse workforce – one that represents the Australian communities in which we build – is essential to driving innovation, ongoing growth, and long-term success.
WGEA’s 2023-24 report shows that our gender pay gap for:
- average total remuneration is 43.9% (versus industry* comparison group of 23.9%)
- median total remuneration is 31.0% (versus the industry comparison gap of 30.3%)
- average base salary is 29.6% (versus the industry comparison gap of 21.5%)
- median base salary is 31.4% (versus the industry comparison gap of 21.5%)
There are several factors that contribute to our gender pay gap, particularly the under-representation of women in executive leadership roles, as well as lower female participation in the industry. While our most recent graduate intake – with 47% being female – marks a positive shift towards greater gender diversity, our gender pay gap demonstrates that there is still work to be done.
We remain committed to meaningful action to address some of the drivers of the pay gap and gender diversity in the workplace:
- We conduct gender pay parity assessments as part of annual remuneration reviews, with the average uplift across the last remuneration period on par between males and females.
- We have learning and development programs designed in-house that focus on gender bias and inclusive and respectful behaviour.
- Improved access to paid parental leave for all Built employees, resulting in men making up 50 per cent of those taking primary carer leave to date.
- Employees on parental leave are now included in our annual remuneration review, ensuring that extended leave does not disadvantage individual career progression.
With the appointment of a new CEO Construction and Chief People Officer, we are reviewing our current practices to prioritise action in key areas of opportunity. We are committed to sustained improvement in closing our gender pay gap and promoting a workplace in which everyone – regardless of gender – has the opportunity to grow, flourish, and create a long-term career at Built.
