Collaborative approach to complex construction in Melbourne CBD

Scape 393 Swanston St

Built successfully delivered Scape’s first student accommodation development in Australia. The project comprised 763 beds over 47 levels in Swanston Street opposite RMIT University.

Value: $108m

Client: Scape Student Living

Architect: Denton Corker Marshall

Completion date: April 2018

After a complex early contractor involvement phase, Built managed the design phase through to completion, working in partnership with Scape to maintain their high quality product.

The project involved demolition of an existing 7 storey brick clad concrete structure building, followed by construction of a 47 storey student accommodation tower with basement levels.
Located in Melbourne’s CBD the building includes 763 single occupation units of varying layouts including a kitchenette, pre-fabricated pod ensuites and a study area.

The structure consists of a post tension concrete slab and beam design with precast concrete façade and punched windows.

Special features include cantilevered block design to the complete vertical corner of the building, reclaimed feature timber screens to lower levels, landscaped terrace areas, ground floor lobby and retail tenancies.
