Project

Anzac Memorial Centenary Project

Built was appointed to deliver the enhancement of the Anzac Memorial in Sydney’s Hyde Park, on behalf of the Trustees of the Anzac Memorial Building, the NSW Government and Infrastructure NSW.

Known as the Centenary Project, works at the Memorial were initiated as part of the 100th anniversary of the First World War focused on completing the original architect’s vision, as well as adding new underground education and interpretation facilities.

Value: $40m

Client: NSW Government

Architect: Johnson Pilton Walker

Completion date: October 2018

The project introduced new spaces for the community, allowing the Memorial to tell the stories of NSW’s involvement in all military and peace-keeping missions, honouring those who have served.

New education, interpretation and civic spaces were created underground, enabling educational programs, permanent and temporary exhibitions.

Renowned Australian artist Fiona Hall was commissioned to install the new artwork in the Hall of Service with one of the most moving elements being a wall display which features plaques and soil from every town, suburb and locality around NSW that enlistees for the First World War gave as their place of address.
